Over the last few months there have been a few new product releases that have demanded the attention of every one of its competitors. With Apple’s recent release of its second generation iPad, a company as well known for innovation as Sony could not just stand back and allow the iPad to corner the market. The tablets, codenamed S1 and S2, are expected to be close competitors for the iPad in not only functionality, but also style, with the S2 variant offering 2 separate LCD displays.

Another of Sony’s latest innovations has been in the form of the world’s first high definition internet TV powered by Google. Two Way Radios : A Short Guide

Two way radios are very handy means of communication, and they are everywhere. For instant relaying of information, they get the job done better than most other devices. Some devices with which you are no doubt familiar are the popular walkie-talkies and family communicators. Cellular telephones are also examples of two way radio technology. Though the job they perform is similar, various two way radios accomplish their tasks in different manners. There are many types of two way radios.

Conventional two way radios are those that use designated RF channels. Quite a few varieties of conventional radios operate on multiple channel settings that may be selected by way of toggle switches, buttons, and dials. The user selects a particular frequency to talk on and selects it. In a multiple channel system, the various frequencies each have a specific purpose. For example, a crew on a construction site may have one channel assigned to supervisors and another is set aside for communications between those on the ground and workers operating heavy machinery. Two way radios said to be trunked automatically select channels. All of the radios on the system continually monitor a signal emitted by a control channel. A radio joins a conversation when the proper protocol is recognized by the handset. Granted, the system uses a particular channel in the form of the control, but it is actually grouped by the collection of radios. It is the electronics installed in the radios that enable conversation initiation.

Push-to-talk two way radios gained massive popularity in the form of cellular phones several years ago. When a rocker button is pushed, a chirp is broadcast alerting the user that the channel is available. Much like a walkie-talkie, the button is released so that the user can then receive the other end of the conversation. Analog two way radios are another type of communicator that many are familiar with. The handheld family radios are popular examples of handsets that operate on this signal. Unlike digital radios, however, only one conversation may be supported at a time. Simplex and duplex two way radios are another type of device. Simplex systems use one channel for transmission and reception. Duplex systems transmit and receive on separate channels. Still other devices operate on a hybrid simplex/duplex system. These systems are able to use duplex technology most of the time, but are also able to default to simplex on the base station when out of range of the duplex transmitters. Two way radios are long time favorites when it comes to communication. Each type of two way possesses certain advantages and disadvantages. It usually depends on how many people need to get in touch at one time.

The most substantial menace is security danger – a person takes his mobile phone in one hand and leaves another hand to drive, and it is indeed unchancy. Another danger is fine risk – if a militia officer observes the fact that a skinner is talking by his mobile phone – he will penalize the skinner with a fine. The Xperia Play – Is It Worth Buying?

Over the last few months the smartphone world has been experiencing a bit of a twitching of the curtains moment of nervousness and speculation as to what Sony Ericsson were doing with the apparent combination of a smartphone and a gaming platform that had been rumored. Well, the curtain is up, the gates are open and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is now officially here. Billed as a handset to take entertainment to the next level, the Xperia Play is sure to change the way we look at smartphones for good.

Although most do not realize it, but this is a big risk for Sony Ericsson as prior smartphone hybrids that have attempted to follow the same path as the Xperia Play, such as the Nokia N-Gage, have only ended up as expensive mistakes with poor sales and harsh reviews. However, many experts have said that the timing of the release of Nokia’s N-Gage handset was poor and right now it seems that with the amazing popularity of downloadable smartphone applications and games, the time for releasing a gaming smartphone could not be better than it is at this moment in time.

Powering this machine is an important point to consider as with mobile gaming a strong foundation of hardware is needed before you even start optimizing games to be compatible. Luckily the Xperia Play looks like it will be able to compete with the top of the bunch in terms of frame rates and computing ability with its 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and an embedded graphics processing unit made by the same company.

It is very common nowadays for smartphones to be manufactured with apparently very capable hardware components but in the end the operating system or user interface ruins the experience. Thankfully, Sony Ericsson has been working very closely with Google over the last year or so in creating the Xperia Play and ultimately it does not disappoint. As well as the superb gaming abilities of the Xperia Play, it also comes with a particularly notable 5MP camera.

Ultimately it is very common for hybrid devices that try to do more than one thing end up not being able to do anything particularly well and fail because of this. However, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play does not seem to be showing any of those characteristics and it is quite clear that it is a formidable device and could very well pave the way for the future of mobile gaming, changing the sector as we know it.

TVs : An LCD TV? Or A Plasma TV?

If you are considering purchasing a new television any time soon you may be confused about the various options available to you. Both Plasma TVs and LCD TVs are popular but which type is the right one for you? Both are slim-line and offer flat screens, high definition and superior picture quality but the technical features differ. So which one should you choose? Below are a few suggestions to help you consider all your options and help you to make up your mind.

One advantage of Plasma screen TV’s over LCD TVs is that they weigh a lot less. If you are wanting a wall mounted TV then a Plasma is probably the better option or if you are undecided as to where the TV will go and may want to move it around then this type is more portable. A Plasma TV would be easier to get upstairs to a bedroom however this type of television has a brighter picture ‘shine’ and this might prove to be annoying with dimmer bedroom lighting. Plasma TVs work well in areas where the lighting is brighter. The amount of space you have is another important thing to consider, many Plasma TVs are bigger than 32 inches so if you have a smaller space an LCD TV may be the better option.

One area that Plasma TVs are considered to be superior to LCDs in is the quality of the images they produce. This is down to Plasma’s having a better ratio of contrast and better levels of color accuracy. The contrast ratio on a Plasma renders levels of black deeper thus improving the quality of the pictures. High grey scale levels also enhance the quality of the picture on Plasma Screen TVs producing greater color accuracy; with LCD TVs white light is filtered.

The advantages of choosing an LCD TV include the fact that this type of TV will usually have a longer life than a Plasma. Most LCDs can reach 100,000 hours compared to a Plasma’s 60,000 hours. LCD TVs do not get as hot as Plasma TVs and use less power because they do not use phosphors to create images. LCDs also work better at higher altitudes with Plasma’s performing less well when altitude levels are high. LCD TVs also do not succumb to burn-in on static images.

When it comes to choosing between a Plasma TV and an LCD TV you are essentially choosing a competing technology with both offering many similar important features. It is the way the image is delivered that makes the difference and for a non-techie type of person it may just be size, cost and initial reaction to the image quality that is the deciding factor. Other people enjoy mulling over the technical features and these will be the deciding factors for them.

The Google Nexus S : An Overview Of Its Specifications And Features

December 2010 saw the release of the latest handset from Google, called the Nexus S. Whereas the previous Google branded handset, the Nexus One, was manufactured by HTC; the new S model is produced by the Korean manufacturer Samsung. Some critics have claimed that the Samsung Google Nexus S is just another model from the Samsung Galaxy range, though there are a number of features that make the Nexus S stand out from the crowd.

The Samsung Google Nexus S, to give it its full title, has a few tricks up its sleeve that sets it apart from all the other Android phones on the market today. The most important factor, aside from the neat design, is the fact that the Nexus S comes with the latest version of the popular Android operating system, version 2.3 or Gingerbread. To power this newest evolution of the Android OS is a super fast 1GHz Hummingbird central processing unit (CPU), and 512MB of random access memory (RAM).

Externally, what causes this handset to stand out from the crowd is the curvature that has been incorporated into the design. The glass screen has a minor concave curve which is supposed to help comfort during extended periods of call time. Other factors that make this phone particularly special are the Super AMOLED display which projects a resolution of 480 x 800 (or 235 ppi), an internal digital compass, an accelerometer, and a gyroscope.

Unfortunately the one thing that is supposed to make this phone great, the updated Android OS, is the one thing that brings the Nexus S back down into the chasing pack of the Apple iPhone. The operating system, although better than previous versions, is still not as complete and capable as the Apple operating system. Although it is easier to say than to do, Google really should be aiming at more than what they have achieved and it is disappointing to say that it still feels lacking in many areas.

Ultimately the decision whether to splash money on Google’s newest handset is really down to your personal operating system tastes. Although the Gingerbread OS still has a few flaws, it is still a worthy contender against the iPhone 4G and quite easily the best Android phone available today.
